Introduction

The Department of Agricultural and Forest Engineering mainly teaches at the School of Agrifood and Forestry Science and Engineering (Campus ETSEA) and at the Polytechnic School (Campus Cappont-EPS) of the Universitat de Lleida (UdL). It also contributes to the teaching of other centers at the UdL. The teaching is related to the knowledge areas of Agricultural and Forest Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Continuum Mechanics and Theory of Structures and Architecture. Most educational credits, named ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) from the implementation of the Bologna Process, are performed in degrees (first cycle of university studies), but also heavily involved in master's degree (second cycle). In addition, the department also participates in several doctoral programs (postgraduate). The department expands its training through continuing education programs at the UdL.

The Bologna Process is committed to the continuous evaluation of students moving away from conventional lectures. It is for this reason that, gradually, the Department of Agricultural and Forest Engineering has improved its facilities to offer its students a large number of practice sessions. At the Campus of the School of Agrifood and Forestry Science and Engineering, the department has several laboratories such as the ones devoted to Cellulose Technology, Hydraulics and Hydrology, Electrical Engineering, Construction, Agricultural MechanizationICT, Automation and Control and the one for Forest Planning and Landscape Analysis. All of them hold both teaching and research activities, which means that students have at their disposal the most advanced equipment and materials. Additionally, some practice activities take advantage of the campus fields while others consist of visiting the socio-economic surroundings of the school.

At the campus of the Polytechnic School, specifically at the building of the Center for Applied Energy Research (CREA), the department has two more laboratories. One is devoted to building materials and the other to construction in general. Both are fully equipped to carry out the practice sessions of the Degree of Technical Architecture. Similarly to the case of the Campus ETSEA, some other activities are performed at other labs offered by the Polythecnic School.
